Registration and You!

Pre-Registration

Before an individual can register for KQ they must pre-register online.  This makes registration faster and allows us to associate each contestant with a team.
Not only does pre-registration make it easier on us, it makes it so much easier that if you don’t pre-register we’re going to turn you away (at least until you’ve done it).  http://tinyurl.com/KQpreregister is the place to go!

Registration

Registration will start at 10AM in 2414 Friley Hall, right next to the Friley Hall desk.  You will need photo identification with your birthday on it.  If you have photo id without a birthday and a non-photo id with one that is acceptable.  At registration we will log your date of birth (to ensure you’re able to compete in KQ and can legally sign a waiver), have you sign the KQ waiver, and give you your wristband.  The wristband must be worn throughout KQ and we will not interact with anyone that doesn’t have a wristband on; unless that interaction is to get you a wristband.

Fast Track Registration

We want to make registration as fast as possible so this year we’re creating a priority registration system.  To go through fast track registration you have to meet slightly steeper requirements:

  • You must print out your own waiver (http://j.mp/KQ2010waiver), read, and sign it.
  • You must have photo ID with your birthdate, not the two ID option outlined above.
  • You must be 18 or older.
  • You must have Pre-registered by midnight Thursday night. (You cannot go through fast track registration if you have not preregistered before that time).

What do you get in return?  Priority registration, faster registration lines and hopefully a significantly less painful process.

Register Early!

The earlier you register the better.  ”Everyone” is going to be putting off registration til the last minute and the lines will get long.  It might even result in you missing the first part of KQ! OH NOES!  We highly highly recommend you come in early.  Registration will start at 10AM for a reason. Please ensure the registration staff aren’t bored.  Think of the registration staff, register early.

If you can’t make it till after 4PM Don’t fret!
At some point between 4-5pm Friday we will close down registration in 2414 Friley and move it to the Challenge desk outside the KURE Studios (1198 Friley).  If you have a hot date Friday night but want to jump into the action Saturday morning just pre-register and come down to the station, we’ll get you taken care of.
That’s all for tonight folks.  KQ is almost here.  Good luck!

This year we’re doing something new and exciting, free agent signups.  Year after year we hear about people wanting to participate in KQ but they’re KQ friend group has broken up or their house had a team last year but decided not to do it this year.  This is our solution to the problem.

If you are a free agent in search of a home go ahead and head to the “Free Agent Sign-Up” link on the right.  We will be announcing how “picks” will work at a later date.

Team and Individual Registration: How are they different? A FAQ

When is the deadline for my team to sign up?  It’s not March 24th is it?.

No, it’s not. Despite our repeated mistake the deadline is February 24th.  That’s this Wednesday.  If you’ve receiving this email you’ve completed the online portion but may not have completed the whole giving us money portion.  Both need to be finished by the deadline.

Reminder: registration fee is $25, late registration is $30, and potentially makes you ineligible for some events.  In a contest with ~12000 possible attainable points that sometimes comes down to 10 or a tie, you don’t want to miss an event if you’re shooting for a podium finish.

When is the late registration deadline?

March 3rd.  It only gives you an extra week, costs more, and causes us more headache.  We like you guys and we want you to sign up on time.

Why does it make us ineligible for some things?

Well…. because we said so….  We’re saying so though becausse, primarily for the Traveling Question, there are some logistical hoops to jump through.  We want to make sure we have plenty of time for all of that.

What is the Traveling Question?

Oh boy, you’re going to want to stay tuned for the email when we announce the KQ Q&A.  Sneak peek: Sunday 7PM February 28th, save the time and the date.

When is the drivers meeting?

I see you’re a return customer. See previous question.

What was the URL for my team members to sign up at again? I deleted the email.

Deleted the email? Really?  We sometimes write questions based on emails we send.  http://tinyurl.com/KQpreregister

You’ve never told us when the Individual Pre-Registrations are due!!!! *Runs around proclaiming the end of the world*

Well… That wasn’t technically a question but I’ll pretend it was.  There is no deadline.  The only deadline is that every individual on your team will need to pre-register before they come in for individual registration.

What is Individual Registration?

Every person that participates in KQ will need to be registered.  There are no restrictions on who can register or when.  Registration simply requires that each individual, in person comes to the designated registration desk, reads and signs some gobble-dy goop document (a liability waiver), and has their age verified.  Each person will need photo ID with their birthday.  We don’t care what it is as long as it has those two things.

Once you’ve done that and we’ve checked everything you’ll get a wristband.

Ok… when is it?

We’ll start doing it at 10AM March 5th (the day of KQ).  We’ll be doing it in a room near the Friley Hall Desk (RM# 2414) rather than the Studios.  We will have 2414 staffed till 4PM (the start of KQ) and then we will finish whoever is in line.  At that point individual registration will be moved to the Challenge Desk which will be, as always, immediately outside the KURE Studios.  You will be able to register throughout KQ, so if you have a late night straggler or a packed Friday class schedule you can come down the the studio and get your wristband anytime.

That being said, we wont allow anyone to participate in any KQ related activity involving KQ staff that doesn’t have a wristband so you’re best off registering people as soon as they can that way when we have you send your best Mario Kart racer down to the studio you’re not scrabling to make it there on time because Joe “Red Shell” Jones didn’t pull himself away from his Wii long enough to get registered when he had time from 10-4 before KQ started.

So… what’s the point of Pre-registering people?

See above “Well… because we said so….”

The reason we’re saying so is pretty simple though. Manually entering the names of all of you is a daunting task.  It’s MUCH easier to have you already in our spreadsheet.  So much easier that anyone trying to register that hasn’t pre-registered will be immediately turned away.  So just do it ahead of time.  Please.

So there is Team Registration which is due Feb. 24th, individual registration which has to be done before someone can take part in KQ, and pre-registration that has to done at http://tinyurl.com/KQPreregister before someone comes in to get registered?

Yup.

Ooooh oooh, one last question!

Shoot.

I have a team roster can I just send that to you to dump in your spreadsheet?

… Ok, fine. But with some restrictions.  First, we’ll only do one data dump.  One (1) only.  It must be sent in a spreadsheet with the columns in this exact order: First Name, Middle Initial, Last Name.  If you decide to share a Google Docs spreadsheet with us it MUST have the following name: “Team Roster: <first three words of your team name>.”

There are no exceptions to those rules, if you mess it up that was your one data dump, you’ll have to put everyone in manually (or make them do it themselves) at the web form.

Sign Up changes

Hear ‘ye Hear ‘ye.  We have updated signup dates for logistical reasons.  Normal (non-late) entry ends Wednesday February 24th.  This year, like last year, there will be some additional hoops for people participating in the traveling question.  Additionally we have to have any participants under 18 (as of March 5th 2010) will need to have their guardian sign their waiver in order to register and get a wristband.

If it wasn’t already clear, IF YOU DO NOT SIGN UP BY February 24TH YOU WILL BE UNABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN SOME EVENTS. You will also not be able to have people under 18 register to be members of your team.

REMINDER: Late signup is determined by when we recieve your team’s entry fee and online form submission, whichever is later.

As always you can sign up here.
